Special Agent George Trabing was accidentally shot and killed when another agent’s handgun exploded after falling from the agent’s coat. The agent had hung the coat up while the men dismantled a distillery in Washington state. Agent Trabing went to move the coat, and when he did, the pistol fell to the ground and exploded. One of the rounds struck Agent Trabing in the kidney. He was transported to the Naval hospital in Bremerton where he succumbed to the wound.

Agent Trabing had served in law enforcement for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. One of his sons went on to serve as Police Chief of the Laramie Police Department in Wyoming.
