On the night of Saturday, February 6, 1926, Yelm Marshal Cornelius Pake interrupted the burglary of a service station in Yelm.
Marshal Pake was shot five times; four times in the groin and once in the leg.
He was taken to Saint Peter’s Hospital in Olympia where he died that night.
The man believed to be the shooter, Roy Jacobs, was tried for the murder of Marshal Pake. The trial resulted in a hung jury and he was released.
Years later, Jacobs was convicted in the 1935 killing of Puyallup Police Department Chief Frank Chadwick and Officer Harry Storem. Jacobs was hanged on April 6, 1943 at Walla Walla.
