On September 21, 1923, Agent Harold Mooring of the United States Prohibition Unit was shot while investigating and collecting evidence in a bootlegging case.  The incident occurred while he and other agents were investigating the owner of a cigar store in Cosmopolis.

The Seattle-based agent survived the shooting and testified against the defendants in court.  However, on April 1, 1925, Agent Mooring died of pneumonia, a complication from his gunshot wound
