On Sunday, November 5, 1911, Jefferson County Sheriff John McInnis drowned while searching for deer poachers.

Details are very limited, but after departing, his boat was found empty on November 5th after he became caught in a large storm.

Sheriff McInnis’ body was never recovered.

Sheriff McInnis served the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for over four years. He is survived by his wife and four sons.
