On Tuesday, September 7, 1886, Officer Ephriam Hubbard and the prisoner he was transporting back to the Spokane Jail were shot and killed as a result of an ambush attack.
Returning from Douglas County, Officer Hubbard was transporting a prisoner who was under arrest for murder. The suspect’s son ambushed the wagon as it traveled towards Spokane. The suspect’s son was armed with a rifle and killed both Officer Hubbard and his father in the process.
