Gadd, Trooper Christopher M.

Trooper Christopher M. Gadd was in his patrol vehicle on the side of Interstate 5 in Snohomish County when he was struck and killed by an impaired driver.

In the early hours of March 2, 2024, Trooper Gadd was working patrol in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5. He was parked on the shoulder of the roadway, with his lights off, watching for impaired drivers. An impaired driver, traveling well above the speed limit, moved onto the shoulder, appearing to use it as a lane of travel. Based on investigative information, it is believed Trooper Gadd noticed the vehicle bearing down on him just before it crashed into the rear of his patrol car. The offending vehicle ricocheted back into the freeway lanes, where it was struck by another car, resulting in additional injuries to its passengers. The suspect driver, who was in the United States illegally, had a lengthy record of driving violations, domestic violence protection orders, and multiple missed court appearances. Following the crash, the driver was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, pending toxicology results.

Trooper Gadd had served with the Washington State Patrol for two and a half years, following in the footsteps of his father, also a WSP trooper. Known for his dedication to public safety and his determination to make a positive impact, Chris quickly earned the respect of his colleagues. His commitment to keeping the roads safe for the public was matched by his quiet strength and steady professionalism.

Outside of work, Chris was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment with his wife and their young daughter. He was also deeply connected to his family, including his parents and sister, who serves as a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper. His legacy of service, honor, and love for his family continues to inspire those who knew him.

Trooper Gadd is survived by his wife, 2-year-old daughter, parents, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends and colleagues.
