Arndt, Officer William D.
End of Watch:
Saturday, February 5, 1966
On Saturday, February 5, 1966, Marysville Police Officer William Arndt responded to the report of a troubled youth, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, inside a house.
Upon arriving at the house, Officer Arndt attempted to talk with the 17 year-old, who had refused to come outside or downstairs. Officer Arndt went upstairs to speak to the suspect when he was shot and killed.
The suspect, Daniel Patton Kramer, was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He only served three years. As recently as 2006, he was arrested after police found marijuana, large amounts of cash and explosives inside his Mount Vernon area home. After spending six months in county jail awaiting trial, he was released and sentenced to time served and DOC supervision.
