Eastern Washington Liaison: Katie Northway
Katie started in law enforcement in 2005 as a Reserve Deputy with Spokane County Sheriff's Office and later as a part-time Officer with Eastern Washington University Police Department. During her time with the Sheriff's Office, Katie met her permanent partner, Michael Northway, a deputy with Spokane County. After marrying in 2007, they decided one officer in the family was enough and Katie hung up her badge, pursuing a career in the insurance industry.
Life for the Northway’s was up-ended in 2012 when Michael and his duty partner were involved in a shooting incident; Michael was shot multiple times by the suspect and suffered significant, serious injuries. Through the support of Behind the Badge Foundation and related resources, Michael was able to get back to work in January 2014.
Katie felt an immediate, passionate connection to the work Behind the Badge was doing and began volunteering as soon as she was able and now works part time as the Eastern Washington Liaison. Katie also works full-time as a 911 Call Receiver for Spokane County.
Katie and Michael have two children and live in north Spokane County.
